Can oysters lead? Perhaps that’s a stretch. But, can you USE oysters to set an example of leadership?
The team at Meridian Capital (www.Meridianllc.com) recently hosted a celebration event at Blueacre Seafood (www.blueacreseafood.com) marking their anniversary, while thanking key business leaders who partner with them in serving the region’s companies.
The fabulous spread of seafood centered on an array of fresh oysters, being shucked on the spot for those who fancy the crustacean…obviously many, given this is Seattle. Wine flowed, conversations ensued, and meanwhile, the table was always freshly replenished, with not one, but several varieties of oysters. All the while, these were served by an expert on the delicacies of each grouping of oysters – where they came from, the different garnishment sauces, and pairings.
One would think this joyful expert, catering to questions while continuously keeping the next appetizer at our fingertips, was representing one of the suppliers – as his cap would have suggested. Maybe this was an expert on the Blueacre Seafood team who was there to cater to the whims of the guests who were always on the move, looking in the crowd for the Meridian team-member who kindly invited them or a well-regarded contact only known thus far by name.
Meanwhile, a smiling face, answering the flurry of questions about the array of food, delivering another perfect oyster, continued in his craft. Who was this aproned, hatted, yet innocuous supplier of our good fortune? None other than Kevin Davis – Owner/Partner/Executive Chef for Blueacre Seafood restaurant.
Quietly, by example, he was demonstrating to the TEAM who was serving and collecting glasses, plates, etc. for our benefit, leading by example, engaging the customer, providing service – without title or accolade.
So, to the team at Meridian Capital – and our host, John O’Dore – and Kevin Davis, thank you.
